Kal-El was born on the planet Krypton to the scientist Jor-El and his wife, Lara. When Kal-El was just an infant, his father, Jor-El discovered that their planet was on the verge of destruction. When he couldn't convince his peers of this, he and Lara constructed a space ship and sent Kal-El to the nearest inhabited planet, earth along with an interactive hologram of himself detailing Krypton's fall as well as a piece of fabric embroidered with their family's crest. The ship crashes in Smallville, Kansas and he's discovered by Jonathan and Martha Kent. They adopt him and name him Clark. He slowly begins to develop abilities beyond that of an average person. When Clark is 10 years old, he witnesses his parents die in a car accident. Clark is then sent to the foster care system, where he is moved from one foster home to the next until he is 18 years old. He falls in love with a girl named Lana Lang. At some point, she becomes aware of his abilities. They eventually become engaged. He gets a job at the Daily Planet as a Reporter and uses his incredible speed to stop crimes and help the police apprehend criminals without being seen, but Lana insists that he stop because she's worried that he'll be locked up and sent to a government laboratory, if people find out about his superpowers. Clark continues to anonymously save people and on one such occasion, he is followed back to the Daily Planet by a girl from a parallel dimension named Lois Lane and a time traveler named H.G. Wells. She tells him that she's from another dimension and that a man named Tempus wants to kill Mayoral candidate, Perry White in order to rule the world. Clark is eventually convinced that Lois is telling the truth. Later, Clark spots Lois about to fall off of a balcony and saves her, but is secretly videotaped by one of Tempus' men. She tells him that she was placed there by Tempus, who still has H.G. Wells. She convinces him to use his powers to fight crime under an alias to conceal his identity and, using the crest his mother gave him, designs a suit for him mirroring the one her Clark wears. After defeating his first criminal as a superhero, Lois dubs him "Superman". They receive an anonymous phone call (actually Tempus disguising his voice) telling them that if they don't show up at the TV station, Perry White will die. Superman arrives and removes a bomb from H.G. Wells. Tempus incapacitates him with Kryptonite. He then claims that Superman is part of an alien invasion, blames him for the bomb and uses the video he had recorded to reveal to the world that Clark Kent is Superman. After H.G. Wells incapacitates Tempus and Lois disposes of the Kryptonite, Superman eats the bomb, saving the building full of people including Perry White and the owner of the Daily Planet, James Olsen. Tempus is arrested. Despite his identity being exposed, the world accepts Clark and welcomes him as their hero. James Olsen runs Clark's official debut as Superman on page one of his news paper. Lana doesn't support his decision to be a superhero and breaks up with him. Later, Superman is brought to the other earth because Tempus is running for president and has imprisoned the other Superman in a "time window" that will erase him from existence in 48 hours. Superman and Lois determine that people are being brainwashed using telephone lines, but Tempus also uses electrical wiring to send his signal and manages to brainwash and kidnap Lois. Superman finds the mind control device and destroys it. He then locates Lois and Tempus, who has entered missile launch codes for nuclear missiles in order to kill millions of people. Superman smashes the computer, interrupting the launch. Tempus' device wears off and he is arrested. After Lois and H.G. Wells rescue their Superman, H.G. Wells says that they might be able to find his Lois Lane. Superman returns to his dimension and, with H.G. Wells' assistance goes back in time to before his Lois disappeared in the Congo and brings her to the present.
